SAMSUNG OLYMPIC SHOW

MODERN MULTIMEDIA EVENT UNDER THE OLYMPIC RINGS

Samsung Olympic Show
Samsung Olympic Show
From the ancient to the modern world: The Bavaria-based company Laserland uses a triptych of screens to bring to life the history of the Olympics at the 2004 Athens games.

As the skies darkened at the Olympic Games in Athens, the Samsung Pavilion in the Olympic village was illuminated in dazzling light. The main sponsor and the official organizers Athens 2004 commissioned Laserland to stage the Samsung Olympic Shows throughout the entire duration of the games. 17 days, three shows a day: Classical musical in tune with the art of programming, lights, lasers, video and the Olympic ideals - a feast for eyes and ears!

As night fell, a triptych descended in the Samsung Pavilion - three 12 square meter screens a short distance apart. On these screens, visitors were treated to the entire history of the Olympic Games - starting in ancient Greece, through the start of the modern era at the end of the nineteenth century, right up to the present day. Seen next to each other, the three screens produced an image of superlative clarity - thanks to a technical revolution in the field of multimedia events. A powerful, air-cooled 16-watt white-light DPSS laser system, split across three laser projectors, was used, and the combination created a whole host of graphical elements. Lasers of this type are new to the market and, due to their low power consumption, can be operated from any normal power outlet. Supported by a water-cooled 5-watt white-light laser system and video projections, the three regular evening performances of the Samsung Olympic Show met with a very positive response.

The synchronization of the three laser projectors and the video projectors, required sophisticated programming in order to deliver a sharp, color-intensive image on the three different screens. The programming was the work of six months - but nevertheless it was still possible to realize changes requested by the customer until just before the official opening. A feat achieved thanks to the fully automated and extremely flexible end-to-end systems from Laserland, and its global network. With their tender for staging the Samsung Olympic Shows, the Greek subsidiary Laserland Hellas was able to beat off competition from companies the world over, and commissioned Laserland Germany with the implementation. Enhanced by classical music, the visitors were afforded a moving insight into the history of the Games. Modern technology brought a new light to both the present and the past.
